Eight fairly large rooms/ suites, with en suite in all but two, and TVs. The decor is simple but elegant throughout, with a small common room and a glassed-in sun room with patio that also serves as dining room.

L-A Beach Side, 4208 Evergreen Av, West Vancouver, T 9227773, http://www.beach.bc.ca This extremely stylish house is gloriously located right on the beach close to Lighthouse Park. Its three luxurious en suite rooms/suites have TV and VCR and some have their own jacuzzi, views, garden patio, kitchen or fireplace.

L-A Crystal's View, 420 Temple Cres, T 9873952, http://www.bc-bed andbreakfast.com Large, sumptuously decorated en suite rooms, some with jacuzzi and balcony, in a very attractive house. Guest sitting room and patio with winning views of the city, but not the most convenient location.

L-A Thistledown House, 3910 Capilano Rd, T 9867173, http://www.thistle-down.com Situated between Capilano Canyon and Grouse Mountain, this warm and attractive 1920s heritage home is tastefully decorated and set in gardens. Five pleasant en suite rooms. Deck, guest lounge and full break- fast included.

AL-A Queen Anne Manor, 4606 Wickenden Rd, Deep Cove, T 9293239, http://www.n-vancouver.com A gorgeous, turreted, Victorian-style home, sumptuously decorated and furnished. Two guest sitting rooms, one with TV, one with library. The two rooms and one suite are a bit twee for some tastes.

B-C Mountainside Manor, 5909 Nancy Greene Way, T 9909772, http://www.vancouver-bc.com/MountainsideManor Unusual, elegant home en route to Grouse Mountain, most suitable if you’ve got a vehicle. Light and airy interior with guest lounge, large deck and a lovely garden. Four pleasant rooms with en suite or private bath.

A superior B&B in a quiet semi-rural setting with eight attractive rooms of a very varied nature, all decorated in wood. Communal lounge with fire, balconies, hot tub, sauna, videos and bike rental. Three-course breakfast, afternoon tea and a shuttle to the hill are all included.

B Edelweiss Pension, 7162 Nancy Greene Dr, Village North, T 9323641. Eight comfortable en suite rooms, some with balconies and views. Extras include a guest lounge with fireplace, whirlpool, sauna, patios, garden and a full cooked breakfast. Great value.
