Dotted Line

$$$ CinCin, 1154 Robson, T 6887338. Upstairs. Mon-Fri 1100-1430, daily 1500-2300. Maybe the best Italian food in town. The Mediterranean decor is warm and romantic, sophisticated and comfortable, with balcony seating for those summer evenings. Many awards, mostly for its wine list.

$$$ Delilah's, 1789 Comox, T 6873424. Sun-Thu 1730-2200, Fri-Sat 1730-2300. The atmosphere here is louche: tongue-in-cheek decadent with lots of red, velvet, and gold gilt. Crowded and noisy, good for people-watching and famed for its Martinis. Food is variable but can be first class.

$$$ The Fish House, 8901 Stanley Park Dr, Stanley Park, T 6817275. 1130-2130. Atmosphere of a slightly faded summer house with lots of windows, and shades of terracotta and dark green. Garden patios are a popular spot in summer. Menu is mainly well-prepared seafood with some steak and other meat dishes. Oyster bar. Two-for-one dinner specials 1700-1800.

$$$ Le Gavroche, 1616 Alberni, T 6853924. 1730-2330. Classic French cuisine served in an old house whose many small rooms make for an intimate, romantic atmosphere.

$$$ Liliget Feast House, 1724 Davie, T 6817044. Wed-Sun 1700-2200. First Nations specialities served in a beautiful cellar space with cedar columns and tables, West Coast art and seating designed by Arthur Erickson. Authentic regional dishes cooked on an alderwood grill. The platter for two with salmon, caribou and fiddleheads is the obvious choice.

$$$ Raincity Grill, 1193 Denman, T 6857337. Daily 1700-2130 (or later), Sat-Sun 1030-1430 for brunch. The place to go for top-notch West Coast cuisine. Ingredients are fresh, locally produced, organic when possible and employed with subtlety and panache. The decor is equally modern, elegant and understated, while the wine list focuses on BC's finest.

$$$ The Teahouse, Stanley Park at Ferguson Point, T 6693281. 1130-1430, 1700-2200. More genuinely classy than the Fish House, this too feels like a summer house, but far more bright and breezy, with lots of plants and big windows offering fabulous views of English Bay. The menu is cosmopolitan: Pacific Rim lobster ravioli, Peking duck, salmon tournedos.

$$ Da Pasta Bar, 1232 Robson, T 6991288. Sun-Thu 1130-2100, Fri-Sat 1130-2200. Dark and intimate interior with big paintings. Portions are large, and at lunch all pastas are $7, wine and beer $4.

$$ Gyoza King, 1508 Robson, T 6698278. Daily 1730-0100, Sat-Sun 1130-1500. Dark, atmospheric and very popular spot for small Japanese dishes and sake.
