C Residence San Zeno, Regaste San Zeno 3, T 045 597721, F 045 8002439, http://www.residencesanzenoverona.it/ Residence San Zeno, near to Castelvecchio, is built on the ruins of the Benedictine monastery of San Giovanni Alla Bevera, destroyed in a 1492 flood. The present-day building has been well restored, with lots of greenery cloaking the walls and a pergola, which grows organic grapes for the buffet breakfast as well as shading the courtyard. Irregular wooden beams, an eclectic collection of antiques and worm-eaten tables give the place a homely feel. Each room or apartment is individual styles range from antique through Liberty to plainer modern, and rooms vary in size from singles to grand suites with kitchens and sitting rooms. Prices vary markedly, too. The only downside may be the snooty and unwelcoming attitude of the owner. E L'Ospite, via XX Settembre, 3, T/F 045 8036994, http://www.lospite.com Owner Federica De Rossi has rooms and flats ranging from singles to flats equipped for four people. The position, next to the bridge of Ponte Navi, is excellent for both the sights of the centro storico across the river and the restaurants and bars of surrounding Veronetta. Prices drop for stays of a week or more.
