In a prime position for the strolling hordes of via Mazzini, Ghelfi & Barbato keeps surprisingly unsociable hours compared to other bookshops around the city, but has English-speaking staff and a good food and drink section upstairs. Selling just about everything (Computers, cameras, TVs, CDs etc) FNAC, a sort of multi-media department store, has a good book department downstairs and an excellent events programme, with authors and musicians. This travel bookshop has an excellent selection of travel guides on just about everywhere except Verona, including English language guides. There is also an impressive number of illustrated books and the citys best selection of maps, including an enormous number covering walks and bike trails through the mountains to the north of the city.
