Walk up the hill from Ponte Pietra and from Castel San Pietro follow the road around to the left.Verona’s campsite is extraordinarily well positioned, on the hill of San Pietro high above the centro storico with great views down through greenery to the city below. The campsite was started around 100 years ago by a botanist, and the 100 terraced plots are still home to more than 300 different varieties of plants. Staff are helpful and welcoming, speak good English, and even if you arrive in the early hours of the morning there is a sign telling you to find a plot and check in when you wake up. A small bar and shop sells essentials, there is a games room, and some of the small, dusty, vine-shaded placements are surrounded by 16th-century Venetian walls, the remains of ancient hill fortifications.
