Caffè Bukowski, via Amanti 6, no T. Mon, Wed-Sun 1900-0200. Though it calls itself a café, and is open early in the evening as a bar, with beers on tap, nobody much seems to turn up until at least 2200, and the atmosphere is certainly one of a club. White drapes, a black ceiling, mirror balls, ultraviolet lights, cocktails, pink sequins, DJ sets and plenty of camp attitude. Associazione Culturale Interzona, 16 via Santa Teresa, T 045 505005. http://www.izona.it Interzona, a left-leaning social group, have their base in an old refrigeration warehouse. Though its not a club in the standard sense of the word, there are occasional nights there of excellent, often avant garde, music, both DJs and live concerts, and an excellent youthful atmosphere. The place is also used for exhibitions. Its not at all easy to get to though, in the heart of Veronas industrial southern sector. If you dont have your own transport a taxi is recommended. Alter Ego, via Torricelle 9, T 045 915130. Summer only. Fri and Sat 2100-0400, plus occasional other nights. Check http://www.alteregoclub.it or press for details. Far enough out of town for the disco beats not to carry back, Alter Ego, in the hills above the city, has a terrace outside, looking back over Verona. It's a colourful, trendy place, with vaguely alternative sounds, and mainly Italian DJs, but it's not easy to get to without your own transport. Berfis, via Lussemburgo 1, T 045 508024, http://www.berfis.com Fri-Sun 2300-0400. In the industrial south of the city, Berfi's is popular but fairly conventional, with lots of pop hits. There is a Caffè degli Artisti area with live music and cabaret, and from 2030 until 2330 the entrance price includes a meal at the attached Il Cantuccio restaurant. In summer Berfi's moves to the Lido at Torri del Benaco on Lake Garda . Hollywood Danceclub, via Montefelice 11, Bardolino, T 045 7210580, http://www.hollywood.it Thu-Sun 2200-0400. On the hill of Bardolino, with a great view of the lake, Hollywood Danceclub is possibly the trendiest of Gardas clubs. With a main room, a private room and a garden, and a mix of colonial and mediterranean styles, Thursday to Sunday evenings have international guests and events as well as happy house and '70s and '80s tunes.
