Dotted Line

From Europe Ryanair’s twice daily flights (daily in winter) from London Stansted to Verona (or more acurately to Brescia have opened up the city as a long weekend destination for British travellers. British Airways compete with this service by offering twice daily flights between London Gatwick and Verona. Ryanair’s flights have been known to sell for under £10 each, plus taxes. More usual return prices range between £50 and £200, depending on season and time of the week. In high season, charter flights are also a possibility, as are packages, especially to Lake Garda. Flights from Verona to other European cities include Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and Vienna.

From North America There are no direct flights from North America to Verona. It is possible either to change at Rome for a connecting flight or to get a flight to Milan and catch the train. Air Dolomiti and Meridiana both connect to flights from New York, via Rome, Frankfurt and Munich. Prices start at around $650 return. Flying via London is usually cheaper. Total journey times are around ten hours to the East Coast of America.

From Australia and New Zealand Qantas fly from Brisbane to Rome (a 26-hour journey), from where you can catch a connecting flight to Verona, but you may find there are more options and lower prices available by flying to London and changing there.

Airport information Getting to and from Verona Villafranca airport (also known as Valerio Catullo, T 045 8095666, http://www.aeroportoverona.it) is a fairly simple affair – blue APTV buses run every 20 minutes from the train station, 0700-2335. There is also one at 0005. The journey takes around 15 minutes and costs E4.20 each way. During important trade fairs this service extends to the Fiera. Taxis cost around E20 to the centre of the city. The airport has six car rental companies , a bank, a bar, and a couple of shops.

Tiny Brescia Montichiari airport (also known as Gabriele D’Annunzio, T 030 9656511, http://www.aeroportobrescia.it) , used by Ryanair (and called by them, somewhat disingenuously, ‘Verona Brescia’), is about an hour away from Verona by bus. Ryanair run a service between the airport and Verona train station which coordinates with their flights and costs E9 single, E16 return. Tickets are available from an office inside the arrivals/departures hall (or, on the return journey from Verona, on the bus). There is a similar service to Brescia.
