Verona's municipal pools are excellent, with two olympic-sized pools and two junior pools. The complex at Caldiero is similarly well-equipped, with the added bonus of two medieval pools, still in operation, as well as supposedly healing spa waters. Lake Garda also has plenty of good swimming opportunities, such as at Baia delle Sirene . The waters of the lake are not always as harmless as they seem, however, and there was a spate of drownings in 2003. Torbole is one of the best places on Lake Garda for sailing, both for winds and facilities, though Malcesine also has sailing schools, as does Riva. It's also a good place to learn, with good winds and enough other people tottering around in the water to stop you feeling foolish. Verona's canoeing club offers lessons on the Adige, but isn't very accommodating for visitors.
